Crunchy, protein packed roasted beans made in the air fryer with almost no oil. No boiling required, just soak, dry, season, and air fry.
- 1 cup red beans (Rajma)
- Olive oil (for spraying)
- Salt (to taste)
Soak 1 cup of red beans in water for 6 hours, until they puff up.
Drain the beans and pat them dry with a cotton cloth. Spread them out for 10 minutes so they dry fully. This step matters more than people think.
Preheat your air fryer to 400°F (200°C) for 2 minutes.
Add the beans to the air fryer basket. Spray with olive oil, mix well, then add salt and mix again so it coats evenly.
Air fry at 400°F (200°C) for 15 minutes. You can boil the beans first if you want, but I like them roasted without boiling. Do as you wish. Toss the beans every few minutes so they cook evenly and turn crunchy on all sides.
Serve them for breakfast. They’re a healthy, protein rich way to start the day.
- Skip boiling for a crunchier texture, though boiled beans work too if you prefer.
- Toss the beans often during cooking for even crunch.
- Dry the beans fully before air frying, leftover moisture stops them from crisping.
- Don’t overcrowd the basket, beans need space for air to circulate.
- Check a few minutes early since air fryers vary in actual cooking temperature.
