About Air Fryer Roasted Chickpeas
We have been eating chickpeas since childhood, using traditional cooking methods. As far as I remember, my grandmother used to cook chickpeas in hot sand. The taste and texture were so amazing that I still remember it clearly.
Now, in our generation, the air fryer has changed the way we cook. Cooking methods keep evolving with time. But we really can’t compare cooking in hot sand and cooking in an air fryer, because both are different. Each method has its own benefits and its own taste.
Anyway, chickpeas are almost always available in my pantry. We often use them to make dishes like chhole or falafel, even for breakfast sometimes.
If you are planning to make these air fryer roasted chickpeas, you will get a crispy bite in every piece.
Roasted Chickpeas Air Fryer Ingredients

- White chickpeas: I use fresh raw white chickpeas and soak them overnight for around 10 hours. You can also use store-bought canned chickpeas, just rinse them well before using.
- Oil: I use a little oil to coat the chickpeas evenly. This helps the spices stick well and also makes them crispy in the air fryer. You don’t need too much, just enough to lightly coat all the chickpeas.
- Spices: This roasted chickpeas in air fryer is a spiced version, so I add paprika, garam masala, chaat masala, coriander powder, and sea salt. You can always adjust the spices based on your taste. If you like it more spicy, add a bit more paprika or chili powder.
- Baking soda: I add a small pinch of baking soda while soaking the chickpeas. It helps soften them faster and gives a better texture after cooking. Just make sure to rinse them well before using, so there is no taste left.
How to Make Roasted Chickpeas Air Fryer
1. Take a bowl and add chickpeas, water, and baking soda. Soak them overnight for 10–12 hours. Baking soda helps the chickpeas soften.

2. The next day, drain the water and pat the chickpeas dry using a kitchen towel. Let them rest for about 1 hour to remove extra moisture completely.

3. Transfer the chickpeas to a bowl. Add oil, paprika, garam masala, chaat masala, coriander powder, and black salt. Mix well so all the spices coat evenly.

4. Preheat the air fryer at 200°C (400°F) for 2 minutes.

6. Air fry at 200°C (400°F) for 18 minutes. Shake or toss the basket every 5 minutes for even cooking and crispiness.

7. Serve hot and enjoy crispy spicy chickpeas.
Tips For Air Fryer Roasted Chickpeas
- Always dry the chickpeas well after soaking or steaming. Extra moisture can stop them from getting crispy.
- Do not skip the light oil coating. It helps the spices stick and gives a better crunch.
- Spread chickpeas in a single layer in the air fryer basket. This helps them cook evenly.
- Shake the basket 2–3 times during cooking for even roasting.
- Adjust cooking time based on your air fryer model. Some cook faster, some take longer.
- If you want extra crispy texture, cook for a few more minutes at the end.
- Let them cool for a few minutes after cooking. They become even more crispy as they cool down.
How to Store Roasted Chickpeas
Let the roasted chickpeas cool completely at room temperature before storing. Then keep them in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
If you live in a humid area, it is better to store them in the fridge to keep them fresh and crunchy for longer.
How to Reheat Roasted Chickpeas

To bring back the crispiness, reheat them in the air fryer at 160°C (320°F) for 3–5 minutes.
Avoid using a microwave because it can make them soft instead of crispy.
